Teenager expelled for being Christian: China

In 2009, 17-year-old Chen Le was expelled from school in China because he signed a document that stated he was a Christian.

His expulsion notice stated,

“[Chen Le] was found… to have engaged in Christian gatherings. His school was notified that it should educate the student and persuade him to mend his ways. However…this student persists in his belief …He cannot promise that he will not believe in Christianity or attend Christian activities.”

Chen Le was barred from taking the college entrance exam, preventing him from pursuing further education. In response, Chen Le said, "I would rather be forced out of school than deny my faith."

Voice of the Martyrs and Thirteen Three rallied Christians to pray for the decision to be reversed. A month later, Chen Le was allowed to return to school! This decision was influenced by pressure placed on Chinese authorities by the international community. Now, Chen Le is able to continue his studies.
